Frequently Asked Questions

  • Our program operates from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and we kindly ask that students are dropped off and picked up at semi-regular times each day to help maintain a consistent routine. We ask that all children arrive no later than 10:00 a.m. so they don’t miss out on important learning opportunities and group activities.

We understand that every family’s schedule is unique, and there may be occasional changes due to appointments or other needs. There is no fee associated with dropping off after 10:00 a.m.—we simply ask for open, positive communication and a consideration that your child may miss out on some of the fun if they arrive later in the day.

Please note that we close promptly at 5:00 p.m. A late pick-up fee will apply for any pickups after closing time. While we certainly understand that life happens and delays are sometimes unavoidable, we appreciate your effort to arrive on time.

We now offer afterschool care! $35 a day for your elementary school child to come hang out with us. We will feed them a snack, let them play and offer some time to do homework. For children who are going to school at Bear Creek Elementary, we offer to pick up your child and walk them to our site. Like the above, all payments are due for days you expect you will need care. Ex. Your child needs after school care 3 days a week, your monthly total is $420

  • No! We provide meals and snacks for all children! Little Seba's is a tight community and parents often bring in community snacks such as seaweed, crackers, applesauce, etc. though it is never required.

We also provide wipes for children who are in diapers, sunscreen, bedding, and more! However, if your child requires anything specialized, you must provide your own.

  • we are deeply committed to providing quality care for children with diverse needs and life experiences. Our passion is personal—our own son was on oxygen for the first year of his life, and through that journey, we came to understand just how vital it is for caregivers to offer a safe, inclusive, and joyful environment for every child.

With our next grant, we plan to invest in wheelchair ramps to improve accessibility for both children and adults who may use mobility devices. Although our hallways are cozy, we are fully open to adapting our space as needed to better serve all families.

We currently offer a sensory swing to support children with self-regulation, as well as visual charts throughout the school to provide additional guidance. Individualized support plans are always available to help meet each child’s unique needs.

For children who are sensitive to sound, we provide noise-canceling headphones to help create a more comfortable learning experience. We also strive to use natural lighting as much as possible throughout our space to promote healthier, gentler sensory stimulation.

We aim to make our environment welcoming for children with visual impairments, including those with color blindness or dyslexia. Toys are labeled with images and multiple languages to support recognition and comprehension. We are always open to incorporating additional sensory tools—such as braille or other resources—based on your child’s specific needs.

  • Supporting Children with Diverse Needs

At Little Seba’s, we recognize and embrace the unique needs of each child in our program. Our community includes children with a variety of sensory preferences, as well as those who may have experienced traumatic backgrounds. In situations where a child is struggling with behavior, we maintain close communication with parents and guardians to collaboratively determine the best course of action. In the past, we have adapted our program to fit individual needs and have adopted behavioral plans into the way we care for all children.

We take a proactive and supportive approach to discipline, viewing challenging behavior as an opportunity for the child to communicate an unmet need. In these instances, we work to address the root cause of the behavior in a constructive manner. Often, we offer children a brief respite by allowing them to sit near a teacher and engage in a calm discussion about their actions and their consequences.

When a child’s behavior poses a risk of harm to themselves or others, we employ strategies to minimize potential harm while maintaining a safe and supportive environment. In some cases, we utilize calming tools such as a sensory swing, outdoor punching bag, or chew toys to help the child release built-up frustration and regain composure.

Our goal is always to ensure that every child feels heard, supported, and safe, while fostering an environment where they can learn and grow.

While we strongly believe in addressing and correcting behaviors, there may be rare instances where we find it necessary to send a child home, depending on the nature of the behavior and our ability to meet the needs of all the children. However, this is an exceptional measure, and we strive to resolve any issues before resorting to this step. We rarely, if ever, send a child home for misbehavior.

  • Staffing and Child-to-Teacher Ratios at Little Seba's

Currently, Little Seba's maintains a ratio of 3 teachers for every 10 students, ranging in age from infants to 5 years old. As we continue to grow, our commitment is to uphold low teacher-to-student ratios in order to provide the highest quality of care and attention for each child.

In the coming months, Little Seba's will be hiring an additional staff member to support the management of our newly certified licensing. With this certification, we are now authorized to care for up to 16 children, and our staff-to-child ratio will be adjusted to 1 teacher for every 4-5 children depending on the age of our students and needs. This change will allow us to continue offering individualized attention while meeting the needs of all children in our care.

We remain dedicated to maintaining a nurturing environment that supports the developmental needs of every child, while adhering to the highest standards of care.

  • Yes! However, co-payments may be required. We strive to create space for 50% of our program to accept state pay.

  • At Little Seba’s, we strive to remain open as consistently as possible to support our hardworking families. Our facility will be closed for certain major holidays (Mainly Thanksgiving and Christmas) though we are open for most minor holidays.

While we rarely close due to weather conditions, we encourage families to use their judgment when deciding whether to drop off their child during severe storms or unpredictable weather.

Additionally, we have updated our policies to include 10 days of sick leave for staff. In the event that illness affects all staff members, there may be a temporary closure of the school to allow both staff and students time to recover.

To make up for family losses during sick leave, we now offer 5 consecutive, tuition-free days per year for families, during which no childcare will be provided. This allows our families to feel the ease of vacationing without having to worry about tuition for up to 1 week.

  • We do! While we recognize that pets may not be suitable for every family, for many, they enhance the atmosphere of our school. We have two cats: Toulouse, a sociable ginger tabby who occasionally interacts with the children, and Freyja, a more reserved cat who prefers to remain out of sight during the day. Additionally, we have a Rex rabbit named Ivan, who enjoys roaming the yard in warmer months and is brought indoors during colder weather. We recently adopted our lop eared rabbit, Dave, and she has been a wonderful addition to our school! All of our animals are up to date on their vaccinations and have been approved for inclusion in our childcare program.

Additionally, we have a large fish tank with many beloved fish including: Big Papa, Nemo, Tad, Lilly, Professor Quigly and Mr. Websley.

  • No! We are perfectly equipped to help your child learn bathroom skills on their own time and schedule. Many preschools require a child to be potty trained by 2 years old. We understand that not every child is on the same timeline when it comes to these skills and we prefer patience and happy learning.

  • we do utilize television, but primarily as a tool to support our daily routine. You may notice the TV on early in the morning during arrival time—this is because our own children enjoy watching a short program while eating their breakfast, creating a calm and cozy start to the day. The television is always turned off by 9:00 a.m. at the latest.

During the summer months, the TV is used less frequently, but it may be offered at the end of a long, hot day to help children relax and wind down. In the winter, when outdoor play is more limited, we use the television to encourage movement and exercise. Programs like “Cosmic kids yoga” or "Go, Danny, Go" help ensure children are staying active even when we're stuck indoors.

Additionally, we allow the older children to watch some television during rest time, after they have laid on their mat for 15-20 minutes. We make sure children have had a chance to rest their bodies and their brains for this length of time before turning on the TV. TV for rest time is usually calm and educational (Miss.Rachel, Leap frog, Puffin Rock, Number Blocks, Trash truck, Magic school bus, and Tumble leaf for example)

Our goal is to use screen time intentionally and thoughtfully, always in a way that supports the needs and well-being of the children in our care. We do send home a consent form for every family to fill out along with enrollment paperwork. You can choose to completely opt out of television use if that is best for your family and we will have children engage in other ways for exercise.

Our Preschool community attends the “Walk for Epilepsy” every year to support our son on his Epilepsy journey! Preschool community members donated custom T-Shirts to our school in effort to support. The turn out was incredible and our family felt very loved and supported!

We wholeheartedly encourage families to share events and causes that are meaningful to them. Inviting other preschool members to participate in important moments helps build the strong, compassionate community we value so deeply at Little Seba’s Preschool.

Additionally, we host monthly events for our preschool families. In the summer, we invite families to join us for playground meetups, a cookie/coffee social, late night pick up nights and much more! We are so much more than a standard preschool as we enjoy the presence of our preschool families and love watching children form strong friendships.

We intend to create infant meetups as well that will be separate from the events hosted monthly and specifically designed for infant needs. This is to allow new parents and families with infants to connect and discuss the joys and challenges of infant care. We know how important building community is, especially if you are new to town!
